Thumbnails are missing

You see: Shot-list rows with no picture, or reel clips in a flat color. Or, in Thumbnail Cache, that shots in this shot list have no thumbnail, or "No thumbnails could be rebuilt. The source files may be missing or unreadable."

Why: Thumbnails are kept on each computer, not in the shot list, so a shot list opened somewhere new, or after the cache is cleared, starts without them. Shotwork rebuilds them when the shot list opens, which needs its videos and ffmpeg. A reel tab that was already open keeps showing what it had.

Fix:

  1. Relink any video that has moved; a thumbnail cannot be made without it. See Source not found when opening a shot list.
  2. On the shot list's tab, choose Settings › Thumbnail Cache…, then Regenerate Missing, or Regenerate Missing (Whole Library) for every shot list at once.
  3. On a reel, close its tab and open the reel again.

If that didn't work: "No thumbnails could be rebuilt" means the videos could not be read; open one of them to see why. See Thumbnail cache.
