Start a reel

There are two ways in. An empty reel you fill yourself, and a draft reel Shotwork fills for you from your ratings, which you then hand-tune.

An empty reel

Choose File › New Reel. A reel tab opens with an empty timeline, ready for shots from the picker.

A draft reel

Choose File › New Draft Reel…. Shotwork greedily fills a target length from your best-rated matching shots, in one action.

  1. Set Target length.
  2. Narrow the pool with any of Tags, Project, Client / Studio, Role, Year and Assets. Empty means no restriction.
  3. Set Minimum rating. Any rating (includes unrated) is the default; the others read as ★ or better.
  4. Set Interest points to Any, Has interest points, No interest points, or Trim to interest range. That last one shortens each shot to the part you marked as worth keeping.
  5. Turn on Include restricted shots only if this reel is for someone allowed to see them.
  6. Read the Result line. It re-answers on every change, so you can tune the filters before committing.
  7. Choose Build Draft Reel.

What happens

A new reel tab opens with the clips already laid out end to end. It is an ordinary reel: nothing about it is locked, and nothing remembers the filters that built it. Reorder, trim and delete freely.

Tip

A draft reel is a starting point, not an answer. Its value is that it gets you past the empty timeline with your own best work already in rough order.
