Fades

A fade is an opacity ramp on one edge of one clip. Shotwork has no cross-dissolves: a fade goes to black, and it belongs to a single clip.

Steps

  1. Open the Features tab.
  2. Drag the Video Fade tile onto the clip you want it on. The half you drop on decides which end: the left half gives a fade in, the right half a fade out.
  3. Drag the wedge that appears to set its length, or select it and set Duration in the settings panel.

The fade draws as a wedge over the clip's corner, so its length is readable without selecting anything.

What happens

The fade is stored on the clip and travels with it: reorder the clip and its fade goes too. Trimming the edge the fade sits on keeps the fade at that edge.

On export the fade is a real opacity ramp, applied before any overlay composites on top, so an overlay does not fade with the picture unless it is on the same clip.
