A reel will not export¶
You see: Export Video… and Export Timeline… unavailable, with the tooltip "Fix the problems listed above first". Or Not ready: "Fill or remove every gap in the reel before exporting video." Or Over budget, asking "Export anyway?". The list of problems under the reel's summary names what is wrong, such as a shot that is no longer in your library, a clip that asks for longer than its shot, or a video that is offline.
Why: Export writes exactly what the reel describes, so anything the reel cannot resolve blocks it: a shot deleted from its shot list, a hold longer than its shot, a video that has moved. An empty reel has nothing to export. A gap blocks only video export, since there is nothing to render in it; a timeline carries gaps as they are. Over budget is a question, not a block.
Fix:
- Read the list of problems under the reel's summary. Each line names its clip.
- For a Missing shot, select it and press Del, or right-click it and choose Replace With….
- For a clip longer than its shot, select it and choose Full Length, or set Holds for shorter.
- For an offline clip, right-click it and choose Relink Source….
- For Not ready, right-click each gap and choose Remove Gap, or one of the Fill with items.
- For Over budget, choose Yes to cut the end to fit, or Cancel and shorten the reel yourself.
If that didn't work: Warnings, such as a restricted shot or a clip at a different frame rate, never block export. See Arrange clips, Holds and shortening and Set a length budget.
