description: Three ways out of Shotwork: batch-export marked shots as clips, render a reel to one video, or hand a reel to an NLE as a timeline.¶
Exporting¶
Shotwork never touches your source files. Everything it writes is a new file, and there are three kinds.
| You have | You want | Use |
|---|---|---|
| A shot list with marked shots | One clip per shot, named by rule, with its metadata alongside | Export shots |
| A reel | One finished video, overlays and music included, ready to upload | Export a reel as video |
| A reel | The edit inside Resolve, Premiere or Final Cut, to keep working on | Export a reel as a timeline |
All three re-encode rather than stream-copy. Stream copying snaps every cut to the nearest keyframe, which moves your in and out points by up to a few frames; Shotwork's whole reason to exist is that a cut lands on the frame you chose. The one exception is a shot export whose clip is already the chosen format and covers the whole source file, which is copied as is and labeled so in the results.
Presets your ffmpeg build cannot encode are grayed out rather than failing partway through a batch. See Install for where ffmpeg comes from.
