Report a problem¶
Help › Report a Problem… writes a report about what went wrong, with the facts about your setup that help someone read it, and shows you the whole of it before anything is sent.
Steps¶
- Choose Help › Report a Problem….
- Under What happened?, describe what you did and what you saw.
- Read the report under it. It is everything that will be sent.
- If the file names and paths would help, turn on Show full paths. Leave it off if a path says something you would rather keep private.
- Choose Email Report to open a new message in your email app, or Copy Report to paste it wherever you like.
What happens¶
The report names your ShotWork version, your operating system, the versions of the components ShotWork uses, and how many shot selects and reels were open. It never includes a shot, reel or song name, a tag or any other field value, a frame, or your name. File names and paths are taken out too, unless Show full paths is on; either way, the preview shows exactly what will be sent.
If something has gone wrong in this session, the report carries the last error, which is usually the most useful part of it.
After a crash¶
A crash that takes ShotWork down before it can say anything is written to
hard-crash.log as it happens, and the next launch picks it up: the next
report carries it under A crash that closed an earlier session, with
file names and paths stripped out the same way. Nothing needs turning on.
Only the first part of the crash log travels; if you are asked for the
whole of it, it is in the log folder.
The log¶
ShotWork keeps a log of its own, in a logs folder in
its app data. Open it with Help › Open Log
Folder. You do not need it for an ordinary report, which carries the last
error already; it is for when you are asked for more than one error, or for
the whole of hard-crash.log. Unlike a report, the log is not stripped of
anything. Read it before sending it on.
