The Library window

File › Library… opens one window with five views of everything Shotwork knows about: the files you have registered, the values in their fields, the logos those values wear, every shot at once, and your music. It stays open beside the main window, and double-clicking anything in it opens that thing behind it.

How it works

The Library is an index, not a copy. It reads the shot lists and reels you have added to it, and builds its counts from what is in those files right now. Nothing is stored in the Library that is not also in a file, so removing a file from the Library never touches the file.

The view dropdown at the top switches between:

View What it lists
Files Every registered shot list and reel, with shot counts and which reels draw on which lists. Add files here, or scan a folder for them.
Field values Pick a field, and see every value it has anywhere, with how many shots, shot lists and reels use it. Rename or remove a value on every shot at once.
Logos Every image in your logo pool: what it stands for, which fields carry that, how much uses it, and the categories you have sorted it into.
Shots Every shot from every registered list, in the same browser the reel tab's picker uses. Drag from here onto a reel.

Field values

Choose a field from the dropdown. Every field that remembers values is offered, from every shot list in the Library, so a field that exists only in your Archviz preset appears once you have an Archviz shot list registered.

  • Rename changes the value on every shot in every registered file, and in any tab you have open. Renaming onto a value that already exists merges the two, and asks first.
  • Remove asks where the shots using it should go: another value, or nothing.
  • Add registers a name before any shot uses it, so it autocompletes in the detail panel from then on.

These rewrite files on disk and cannot be undone with Ctrl+Z. The confirmation shows the real counts before anything is written.

Logos

A logo belongs to a value, not to a field. Give "Maya" an image once and it is the same image whether Maya sits in a Software field or a Tools field, and one image can stand for several spellings of the same name.

Each row is one image in your pool. Stands for is the list of values it is the logo for; double-click it, or right-click and choose Assign to a Value…, to add one. Fields is where those values actually appear across your shot lists. The counts add up everything the image's values are used on.

Categories are yours: Companies, Software, Schools, whatever helps you find things. Select an image and choose Categories…, or double-click its Categories cell, to tick the ones it belongs in or type a new one. The Category dropdown filters this view, and the same filter appears in the logo picker that opens from a shot's logo button, so a large pool narrows before you look.

What this means when you…

  • …rename a studio: every shot in every registered list changes, open tabs included, and its logo comes along.
  • …upload a logo from a shot's logo button: it lands in the pool and appears here, already assigned to that shot's value.
  • …delete a category: the images in it stay in the pool; only the grouping is forgotten.
